About Botterells

Botterells Fresh Fish is a family-run fishmonger based in Rye Harbour, operated by John Botterell and his sons, Jasper and George. With a rich maritime heritage, John, a former merchant navy member, founded this commercial fishing company in 1976. George, who now handles the fishing operations, ensures that their catch, sourced from the local East Sussex/Kent coastline, is never out of the water for more than eight hours, guaranteeing exceptional freshness.

The Botterells are known for their commitment to quality and freshness, attending several local farmers’ markets to offer a variety of locally caught fresh fish and shellfish. They take pride in providing their customers with fish that has a shiny bloom, bright eyes, clear red gills, and a firm texture, all indicators of top-quality seafood. Their approach not only emphasises the superior taste of their products but also highlights the provenance of their fish, appealing to customers who value knowing the origin of their food.
